EVENT END: The New Mayor

[On Sunday morning, everyone will wake up to a new card of their choice, along with a note asking everyone to meet in the park at noon for the announcement of the new mayor.

At noon, Rod shows up on the stage, looking somehow more exhausted than the day he broke down.]

Before we announce the new mayor, I want to make a few announcements.

First of all, Red and I have decided to start a city council, and we’ll be able to accept or reject law according to the suitability and reasonability of them. This applies to me as well.

Second of all, in the event that any mayor who isn’t a native manages to leave the city, I will become the temporary mayor again and, in the event that we have time, hold another debate and election as soon as possible.

Lastly, no matter who is elected mayor, they will not obtain the means to alter or control this pocket dimension, so I am still technically the owner of it. This is because both objects are insanely powerful, and we need something more than a mere vote to decide on who gets them. You may think it’s unfair, but I know first hand that its magic is horrifying in the wrong hands.

[He sighs, before he continues.]

Due to the nature of my announcements, you have probably already guessed that I am not the mayor anymore. I cannot say that I personally agree with who you voted for, but I promised myself I wouldn’t be a dictator, and I certainly hope the new mayor will honor it and try to uphold our moral code.

And so… I would like to welcome our new Mayor…. [he weakly gestures.] Sheldon J. Plankton.

[Daria had been doing the “ifs and buts” in her head for the passed few moments. Belle didn’t win. Plankton won. But “Jerry Mander” didn’t win. But was Plankton much better? Not...really. It was impossible to trust Rod and his words. But she overheard all of the precautions they were going to take. Honestly? Daria wasn’t entirely optimistic this place wasn’t going to end up in flames. This place was more corrupt than Koriko, and that said way too much. It was like in high school, which hers was run with iron dictatorship fists. Honestly, now she had to survive this. For she had no choice but to. But like hell was she going to be completely silent, despite her hard to read apathetic expression. It was all on the surface. Her brain was running like hamster wheels.]

Well, if we’re done here I’ve got some place to be. I heard the line to get dole whips is really long. I want to get there and buy ten of them.

[It's hard to read the expressions in a muppet's face, but Beaker is certainly giving off a vibe of horrified dread. He counts through the ballots himself, and its with horror that he realizes Plankton won by exactly one vote.

[Snake makes a displeased grunt. Not only because the guy he voted for lost, but also because the guy he voted against won.]

[Belle watches first in hope, and then dismay, and then utter shock as Rod announces the winner of the election. Certainly, it's better than 'Jerry Mander' having won, but Plankton? He's not exactly a huge step up. She can't help but let her shoulders slump in dismay; she'd trying to be a good sport about this, but it's not even that she lost, it's that someone so obviously ill-suited for the job won.

She's stunned silent for a long moment, and then she screws up her face and shakes her head.]

What? Monsieur Rod, you can't be serious, this is...a joke, it has to be.
