tell him about Holmes-Lore
Who: Basil and whoever, perhaps you?
What: researching some fictional detective or other
Where: Progress City Library
When: throughout June
Warnings: n/a, will update if needed
[ Ever since Plankton got himself kicked out of office, Basil's been spending a lot of time at the city library. Basil seems to be doing research--in the fiction section of all things.
Sometimes he can be found reading through a human-sized book that's ended up on the floor somehow. He has to walk across the pages to read them fully, but he's fairly adept at turning them despite the scale issues. Other times he can be found climbing up and down the shelves, looking for a new one--if you're tall enough to reach the one he wants, he might ask for assistance getting it down. Or maybe you're really unlucky and he's decided to shove the thing off the shelf on his own--look out below!
Taking a closer look at any of his selected books might notice a theme.
...Yeah, they're all about Sherlock Holmes. ]

[mousedad your dumb book crushed her incredibly small haunted mansion mickey hat why this]
no subject
THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING A LOT LATELY?? but he kinda cares more automatically when it's his kid, which. iiiis probably just normal, lets not think too much about how and when his ability to care kicks in.
Mousedad appears, peeking down from a high shelf. ]
...I'll, er. get you another...? [ HOW MUCH TROUBLE IS HE IN ] Although, the hat aside, I must say it's good to see you again. It's been a while.
[ Quite a while. A good-two-months-or-so while. ]
When are you coming back?
no subject
... I don't know. [shrugs slightly] I think I've figured out how I feel. Had enough time to think it over, at least. Now there's just the matter of actually telling her, and... that part is kinda scaring me.
no subject
fuck he is not equipped to deal with this help-- ]
Something she'll take badly, or more that you can't predict how she'll take it?
no subject
... Basically, she needs to dump me. [IT'S MORE COMPLICATED THAN THAT BUT ESSENTIALLY IT]
no subject
Basil's. not entirely sure how to take that news? It's sad, to start with. Sad in a very specific way he can't really articulate.
Mm... Freddie has had plenty of time to make this decision. If he can't even figure out what his current objection is, then obviously she's the one with the better grasp of the situation. ]
...I suppose I can see that being a bit awkward, yes.
[ Decision's made, he doesn't quite approve and it's hardly going to make Ariel less sad, but also the wait time here's getting ridiculous.
He's not going to say any of that at this point. Freddie chickened out once already, giving her another opportunity simply risks a repeat. ]
...I'm afraid I've still a few things to deal with at the moment, but pick a time... mm, tomorrow? We can meet wherever it was you managed to find that little hat and I'll make good on replacing it.
[ Also Ariel will show up. It will be very mysterious. ]

won't that be lovely!]

[ Freddie, at her job. No wonder she'd been able to disappear so completely. ]

[and then she leaves and TRANSITION
Freddie finds herself wandering down to chapeau hat shoppe by herself, feeling mildly put upon for being stood up like this. ah, well, didn't matter. she enters the shop and engrosses herself in looking at the displays of tiny hats.]
Now... If I'm gonna have somebody buy this for me, I need to pick the most expensive... [this is very intensive work so she's not paying attention to anything else at all.]
no subject
...Freddie?
[At first she thinks she's imagining things but no. There is the girl who broke her spell.]
no subject
she could run. she's good at that. and the villainous thing to do would be to disappear into the night, never to be seen again. (and wring basil's goddamn neck because gdi he fucking planned this didn't he)
... but. it's not the right thing to do.]
... Hey, Ariel. [inhales sharply] We, uh. We gotta talk.
no subject
...But after a moment that breaks.]
Pleasedon'thatemeI'msosorryFreddie!
no subject
No, no, I don't hate you! It wasn't... It was never about anything like that. I love you. I never stopped. I'll probably never stop.
.. It's just, that's part of the reason we need to call this thing off. [VISIBLY BRACES FOR IMPACT]

[Ariel takes a deep breath, relaxing a little...even after what Freddie says. She reaches out to her and takes her hand gently.]
You mean our relationship? How come?
no subject
We both need... time. To heal. And grow. And maybe figure out how this whole "loving yourself" thing is supposed to work before you go on asking anybody else to do it. [okay that last one is probably just her--] This place... It's the closest thing to freedom we've had in a long while. I think we oughta take advantage of that.
no subject
[She hopes its okay but she does pull her into a hug.]
Y-You're right. I mean...it sucks but you are right. I honestly was just so scared you hated me. But to know you love me... that's enough. I can live with that.
[Ariel lets her go.]
It's more important to me that you're happy, Freddie. So if this is what you need, that's fine. I mean it.
no subject
[she lets out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. for weeks.]
... Thanks, Ariel. For being the one to actually convince me I ever could get better. It's meant a lot to me.
... Think we could kiss one last time? Just for the road?
no subject
We'll talk again when you're ready okay? Just...take of yourself until then okay?
[She gives her shoulder a light squeeze before stepping back.]
I love you Freddie. Take care.
[Ariel waves before leaving the store, still smiling even with tears running down her face.]
