[Today you found a ticket to a theme park. It seems relatively normal, except that it reads: Lifetime Parkhopper Pass to Progress City. ”The Most Magical Pocket Dimension in the Multiverse!” This is not a theme park you have ever heard of, if you live in a world where theme parks are of the norm.

For some reason you’re drawn to the ticket. There’s something… magical in this piece of paper, and you can practically hear it calling out to you, and you feel compelled to pick it up. It’s strange, but it’s a piece of paper, what’s the worst that could happen?

However, the moment you pick it up, you feel yourself being pulled. There is nothing pulling you but there is an overwhelming sensation that something is pulling you by the chest into the ground. You don’t have time to process what’s going on before you suddenly fall over, the strange feeling going away the moment you hit the ground.

It takes a few moments for you to regain your bearings, but as you look up you are suddenly hit with the fact that, wherever you were before, you certainly aren’t there anymore. It appears to be a transport station of some sort, and a very sleek and new one at that. Monorails pass by the station every couple of minutes, with small, slower moving vehicles consistently move in and out of the center.

The innermost wall, right behind where you stand, is lined with portals. It appears that you came in through this portal, but if you try to go back the way you came in, you’ll find that you are unable to enter it, no matter how hard you try.

While the realization that you are now trapped in this strange place, you will soon find that you also have a strange band strapped to your dominant wrist. No matter how hard you try to take it off, it seems like it’s stuck on there.

At least you’re not alone, along with a bunch of other people who arrived around the same time you did, there are humanoid people who seemed to be intrigued by your arrival. They’re all generally nice, but get confused if you ask them why you’re here and why you can’t leave. They will, however, happily tell you the name of the place you’re in if you ask:

Progress City.]

What, have you met magic robots before? Because I gotta say, that's a new one. [even for her]

[nods solemnly] A bunch of evil robots abducted me and my friends and forced us to kill each other. We defeated them, though!

[none of this is true]

Oh! Uhh, that's... [yeah even Della thinks that sounds fake] ...well, I'm glad you defeated them? But hopefully this isn't like that.

I'm... kinda thinking it might not be? The last ones were all in little houses. This place is pretty... [waves her hands expansively] I mean, where do those weird trains go? You can't keep track of people in a place so big it needs trains.

Hmm. You're right, that doesn't seem at all effective for mass-murder.

[she kind of wants to take all the trains though just to map out this place but there's probably a better time for that.]

Then you'd at least think they'd tell us why we're here! I don't see the point in dragging a bunch of people into a theme park for no reason. ...Unless it's a vacation, in which case they really should've let us pack first. [she misses all her shit she's so unprepared for whatever this is]

That's why it has to be a kidnapping, even if it's a kidnapping for non-murder reasons! [which. she can't think of any right now. but she's sure they exist.] We didn't get any warning or anything!

Then I guess we should figure out who's in charge and get some answers. I mean, look at all of us! There's gotta be more of us than of them. It's not like they're gonna try and fight us.

[unless the 'them' is magic robots in which case she's not As Confident about their odds but. surely this can be resolved by just asking them, maybe they just lack the etiquette to properly invite guests over.]

Yeah!

[SLAMS FIST INTO PALM]

Let's show them who's boss! [GOD SHE MISSED VIOLENCE]

Wait, wait! [SHE DIDN'T. MEAN IT LIKE THAT] I mean-- I meant really getting answers. You know, just... talking to them?

[on one hand she doesn't want to discourage a kid from beating people up because she was the same way but on the other hand. she probably Should discourage this? hm]

But, um, if they're uncooperative, then you can give 'em a piece of your mind. How's that?

Oh.

[oh no that's... that's really boring...]

Well, they're always uncooperative, so punching is gonna be pretty much the only way to solve this. Trust me.

You know, you're probably right, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't give other options a try first. You'd be surprised how many tough spots we've gotten out of without having to fight.

[granted it's usually because Scrooge is a smooth talker and Donald's good at providing distractions but. y'know maybe one day just civilized discussions will work out and she can actually learn something from somebody.]

[SIGHS a little dramatically]

You're gonna be that kind of grown-up, huh?

...Am I that kind of grown-up? [oh god would younger her absolutely hate current her. she has to re-evaluate some things.]

Right. Sorry. Uh, Don and I aren't really around kids a lot. Mostly just old people. Boring old people. [and at least Scrooge isn't around to hear her slandering him like this.]

So how about... punching things can solve a lot of things, but not everything. So maybe we shouldn't punch all the time. Is that better?

[HM...]

I guess that's fair. [and this lady kinda looks like Donald which reminds her of her promise of which "not punching all the time" is definitely a factor.

she has not made any connections yet.]

You just seem like you'd be really great at the punching part, is all.

Better at it than the rest of my family!

[she sounds proud of that and then remember she's trying to be vaguely responsible, so she backtracks slightly.]

But, uh, not great at it. It's kind of a last resort. We're adventurers, not gladiators.

Oh, cool! I mean, being a gladiator is super fun, but adventures are pretty cool, too!

[she glances over at the portals, a bit ruefully.]

I'd kinda been hoping my next adventure would be with my family. I guess that's out of the picture now.

Della follows her gaze towards the portals, though, and her expression drops a bit, even if she doesn't let it trouble her for long. she can understand the feeling.]

...Yeah. Me, too. The three of us usually always go together... it's gonna be weird without them. But there's probably a way back, anyways! We just have to find it.

Last time, the way back was over the corpse of the god of the dead.

[so]

...Oh. Well...

[she takes a moment to consider.]

...I guess we can work with that if we have to. But maybe it won't come to that. I'd rather not kill any gods if we can help it.

I'd like to. Star got the last one all to herself! [SUPER JEALOUS]

If we run into one, I'll be sure to tell everybody that you've got dibs.

[and then she like. remembers she never even got this kid's name or anything.]

Oh, right! I'm Della, by the way.

I'm Marnie. Nice to meet you! [man that name sounds weirdly familiar... idk she can't remember. so much happens so often.]

Marnie, then! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for any gods you can punch while I'm looking for a way out of this place.

Cool! And I'll keep an eye out for... [uh] Do you need anything that needs eyes out for it?

Let me know if you see any other ducks around? I was with some of my family when I found that ticket and I'm not convinced they didn't follow somehow.
