EVENT LOG PT. 1: The Fourth of July Masquerade Ball

Whew boy, it's the hottest Fourth in July we've had in years! Thankfully, the local nuclear family, The Progresses, are happy to host the annual Fourth of July Ball. Formal dress, patriotic wear, and straight-up costumes are all encouraged. In fact, you'll find the host wandering around in his own George Washington outfit - in fact, it seems as though everyone has turned up for this event! Anyone who's anyone is here, and this could be a good opportunity for you to connect!

...Of course, food and drink are provided. While it might be a little bit too classy for some's taste, there's a barbecue happening outside just in case you need to get away from the stuffiness for a little bit. Generally, it seems as though everyone here is friendly enough, even if the party is a little too classy.

It all seems to be going pretty well, and seems as though you finally have a pretty decent day on your hands...though, those ink splotches you occasionally see on the ground are a little weird.

[Welcome to Progress City's Fourth of July event! We're gradually going to be tagging in to the log with every NPC we've introduced thus far, and plenty that we haven't introduced quite yet! [The Ghost Host is here, and actually unironically dressed up as Benedict Arnold. It’s not that much different from his usual wear, but it’s something. He can often be seen eating too many deviled eggs, trying to spook people, and getting #GhostWasted.]

[Well the good news is that Jed’s 1 (one) outfit is already essentially a costume, so he’s all set. He’s just hanging around on the food and drink tables 100% of the time, on one hand because it’s safer and on the other hand because he just wants access to the food. It’s fine, you can still eat if you’re plastic I guess.]

[Rod is here and apparently his idea of a costume is just... his normal suit. With the plainest black masquerade mask on that someone probably told him to wear.

Still, he's at least participating in the activities, making light conversation with most people and drinking wine.]

[Beaker is here, though he looks absolutely haggard. To be honest, Ellen probably had to coax him to take a break and come to the party. He's been too busy with trying to set up the network to actually remember that he, like. Needs to rest.

He's at least cleaned up a little, though.

For now, he's trying to make small talk and not get frustrated when people inevitably don't understand him. Barring that, you'll find him drinking wine. Lots of wine.]

[Wendy pulls up to the party in this work of art, looking great and feeling great. She'd opted for a suit befitting a secret agent for this event, easily obtained when you work in Hollywood-land, along with one of those bandit masks.

She's here to hang out, raid the food table, and maybe go up to someone for the sake of answering an important question.]

So, does the mask actually do anything to you?

[Plankton, though not much of a party person, still shows up for the sake of hanging around near the wine. His costume just involves one extra eyepatch, which is working out really well with the whole drinking wine thing. That is to say he’s missing half of the sips he tries to take and there’s wine all over the floor now.]

[The Dreamfinder's is doing a lot better now that he's not being held hostage by Plankton, and is showing off with a cool new technicolor suit he's wearing. He's going around to everyone to chat about his latest imagineering ideas or just get insight into your character's home lives!]

[Local Scientist is here wearing a suit and spending most of time at the snack table and trying to be social with the other people here.]

This is so lame.

[Complains the ten year old girl who's decided to still come to this dumb conformist ball anyway. Nothing says contempt for something like going to the event and complaining loudly, now does it. Not obeying whatever the dumb rules for whatever this stupid thing is supposed to be about and just wearing what Henrietta usually wears is also a good way to show contempt. Patriotism is so not goth.

The girl mostly keeps to corners of the room, seemingly just glaring into the room but not leaving. As much as Henrietta seems to hate it here, she also seems to be unwilling to leave. Its like she somehow thinks that her annoyance with the entire event might make it go away. Or maybe she's just lonely and won't actually talk to anyone to stop that.

Nah. That's stupid.

She does, however, notice the ink splotches on the ground. Enough so that she starts seeing where she can find them.]

It's like someone murdered a cartoon character.

[Listen, the only reason why she was here was because Wendy dragged her in her golf cart. On purpose. Not thinking they were going to be here. She was tricked.

So after some time being grumpy, she was here...deciding it was fine to just get the free food. She wasn't dressed in anything special at all. In fact, after some odd conversations or so inside, she would just slink outside and just live by the barbecue until she would go home.

Someone wasn't in the mood to really party. Someone lost a friend and was reeling. Logically, she knew hanging around Wendy and other people she didn't hate would make her feel better. But she was just..not in the mood. She hid her sadness by being extra wallflower like.]

[ The party inside is a bit formal, perhaps, but the alternative is currently barbecue and no. ...Basil's only here at all because it's something happening and dear god he is so bored.

So far the festivities haven't really captured his interest, but wandering around this place beats sticking to the bookstore now that his sole coworker's gone. He'll go investigate the ink splotches he's noticed here and there, should nothing more entertaining present itself. ]

[Like some of the others at the event, Tadashi is dressed up. Sort of. He's wearing a t-shirt with red, white, and blue fireworks on it and jeans, along with an oversized Uncle Sam top hat, but that's it.

He's also accompanied at least part of the time by another robot. It looks slightly less like an abomination than the previous time it was out, and can identify people now. At least when they're facing it. The rest of the time he's spending hanging around the food or examining the random ink splotches when he comes across them.

When it gets dark enough, he can also be found making good use of his Dragon Cannon card, providing an amateur fireworks show for anyone who feels like watching.]

[Snake's here and he...really hasn't put much effort into dressing up. Like, zero. He's just wearing his regular clothes. Patriotism is a lie and he's only here for the free food.]

[There’s a man in a suit who seems relatively stoic, but in the times that he does speak, he comes off as having a golden voice. More importantly, he is grilling a variety of burgers outside, and will describe the burgers in painstaking detail when prompted.]

[Two women can be seen tending bar, one in cowboy gear and the other dressed as an old timey gangster. They seem closer than work friends, and can occasionally be seen making flirtatious comments or glances at each other.]
