EVENT LOG PT. 1: The Fourth of July Masquerade Ball

Whew boy, it's the hottest Fourth in July we've had in years! Thankfully, the local nuclear family, The Progresses, are happy to host the annual Fourth of July Ball. Formal dress, patriotic wear, and straight-up costumes are all encouraged. In fact, you'll find the host wandering around in his own George Washington outfit - in fact, it seems as though everyone has turned up for this event! Anyone who's anyone is here, and this could be a good opportunity for you to connect!

...Of course, food and drink are provided. While it might be a little bit too classy for some's taste, there's a barbecue happening outside just in case you need to get away from the stuffiness for a little bit. Generally, it seems as though everyone here is friendly enough, even if the party is a little too classy.

It all seems to be going pretty well, and seems as though you finally have a pretty decent day on your hands...though, those ink splotches you occasionally see on the ground are a little weird.

[Welcome to Progress City's Fourth of July event! We're gradually going to be tagging in to the log with every NPC we've introduced thus far, and plenty that we haven't introduced quite yet! Feel free to set up your own toplevels and tag out, of course - the second part of the event log will be going up on July 10th!]

[Beaker meeps nervously, his head tucking into his shirt. Why does he know about his crush. No one's supposed to know about that. Why does Snake think they're dating.]

M-m-meep mimuh-meep mi minimuh-meep-muh, meep mi meep-muh muh meepmimimimuh-meep muh meep.

[He... may be attracted to a scientist, yes, but they're not. Dating. And it's probably not reciprocated. Probably.]

[He gives Beaker a puzzled look.]

...I was looking forward to meeting him.

Meep-muhmi mi. Mee-mimimuh-mi meep muh! Minimuh-meep muh-mi mi meep mimi.

[Nope, not- not dating. Though Bunsen is here, finally! So you might get to meet him after all.]

[He grunts, a little stung that things weren’t quite as he thought they were. He had confided something important to a friend, under the assumption they were in similar positions.]

...Did you still want to work out together?

[Oh. Oh this is another one of those "Beaker's memory is failing him" moments, isn't it. Ok, great. Beaker's pretty sure he's upset this Cool And Slightly Intimidating Guy enough so he just nods his head "yes". Who cares if he doesn't remember that conversation at all, right?]

[Snake gives a small nod.]

Good.

[Then, feeling somewhat awkward about the situation-]

...You’ll find someone, I’m sure.

[flowersonthewall]

[Beaker looks down at the snack table, suddenly drained.]

Meep-mi muh meep.

[Here's hoping.]

[He puts a hand on his meep friend's shoulder.]

Don't worry.

[A thumbs up with his other.]

You're a catch.

[flowersonthewall]

[Beaker makes a little surprised noise at that.]

M-meep mi!

[So are you!

Beaker then realizes the awkwardness of that statement and goes back to contemplating the snack foods.]

[That actually gets something close to a laugh and a grin from Snake.]
