EVENT END: The New Mayor

Warnings: The new mayor, for one thing.

[On Sunday morning, everyone will wake up to a new card of their choice, along with a note asking everyone to meet in the park at noon for the announcement of the new mayor.

At noon, Rod shows up on the stage, looking somehow more exhausted than the day he broke down.]

Before we announce the new mayor, I want to make a few announcements.

First of all, Red and I have decided to start a city council, and we’ll be able to accept or reject law according to the suitability and reasonability of them. This applies to me as well.

Second of all, in the event that any mayor who isn’t a native manages to leave the city, I will become the temporary mayor again and, in the event that we have time, hold another debate and election as soon as possible.

Lastly, no matter who is elected mayor, they will not obtain the means to alter or control this pocket dimension, so I am still technically the owner of it. This is because both objects are insanely powerful, and we need something more than a mere vote to decide on who gets them. You may think it’s unfair, but I know first hand that its magic is horrifying in the wrong hands.

[He sighs, before he continues.]

Due to the nature of my announcements, you have probably already guessed that I am not the mayor anymore. I cannot say that I personally agree with who you voted for, but I promised myself I wouldn’t be a dictator, and I certainly hope the new mayor will honor it and try to uphold our moral code.

And so… I would like to welcome our new Mayor…. [he weakly gestures.] Sheldon J. Plankton.

...Hey. [Not quite the same amount of energy Wendy usually has, but that shouldn't be all that surprising for Daria. Birds of a feather... feel kind of crappy together.]

[Daria noticed Wendy’s attitude. The usually chill Wendy seemed to be out of sorts and trying to cope with this bad situation too. God knows how Belle felt right now.

Maybe this wasn’t going to solve the problem, but for now, it was just a good way to deal. Wendy came to her, and for what it was worth, sticking together with like minded peers sounded so much better than wallowing in bitterness alone.]

Best if we do it fair and square. Twenty dole whips aren’t going to kill the industry. I’m sure there will be plenty.

[She hoped that rang in Plankton’s ears somehow. Dole whips aren’t going ANYWHERE.]

[Wendy was chill up to a point, and it seemed like even the stoic Daria was having trouble of her own. And Belle would be... someone she'd have to speak to later, at least to check on her.

This was about as nonsense as the election she'd helped in before, but at least she had friends here too.]

Hey whatever you say. Least I can help split the cost. [Blows some hair from her face. Bluh.] Drowning in dole whips doesn't sound like an awful way to keep this day going.

Maybe our new mayor should do the same.

[God, what to do with herself? It was so easy to just throw one joke after the next. But this was a serious thing going on, and it ate her internally.]

After I check up on Belle anyway. Manager duty.

[Throwing jokes was how Wendy dealt with some of the more bad situations she'd been through. At least, in this instance, there were no killings starting. And if there were, then she'd have to give Plankton a piece of her mind.]

Oh, yeah right. Manager duty.

[Friend stuff. She's got ya.]

Yeah.

[But hey. She looked to Wendy, with a somewhat somber look.]

Maybe I’ll ask her if she’d like to come with us.

Hey, sure! The more people, the better!

[Kind of? Still kind of sucks.]

Probably a good idea to try and cheer her up. This might not be the worst thing to happen to her... but it might be close.

[...It was times like this when Daria felt safe to be sincere. It was safe in front of Wendy, she decided.]

She worked really hard for it. She’s a good person, of course she’s going to take it hard. I don’t want her to give up her values for it.

Good idea. Can't let something like this get in the way of her wanting to do some good. She's an awesome person.

[At least, from what she'd seen on TV.]

I'm sure she'll be happy to hear stuff like that from you.

You think? I'm not exactly the most positive person.

[There's maybe some guilt in there. Maybe it was okay to talk about that too.]

I was her manager, so I do share some blame in this.

Ehh, you guys don't have to blame yourselves for it. And don't worry about me doing it.

[Worry about Plankton being mayor, for instance.]

Hey, you're plenty positive. Don't be so hard on yourself, dude. Besides, Belle's gonna trust you more than anyone right now.

[She wondered how to take that remark. Daria knew she wasn't a cheerful sunshine and was okay with that. She half wanted to question what Wendy could mean as in "positive". If she just wanted to make her feel more at ease, it didn't seem right to try to just used minced kind words.

But suddenly, she decided she didn't care about that. Because the last point rang around in her ear. It got her to tilt her head.]

You know, by all accounts, I do hope you're right about that.

Course I am. I'm right about everything.

[No one's around to talk about the times that she's been wrong. And Daria looks like she's agreeing right now, so she'll take it.]
